One of the very unfortunate aspects of practicing in this area is the issue of wait time because we have clients who are desperate. They have no income coming in, their expenses don’t stop just because they filed for social security disability and they need the money but the system does not move quickly. By the time you’ve gotten to the hearing level you will have lost at the initial application which can be several months. You will have lost at reconsideration which is another couple of months, then it’s going to be another year and a half in Miami or throughout the state of Florida in order to get in front of a judge. Now there are some states where it can be a little faster but you’re going to file where you live and if you live in Florida and we practice generally in the state of Florida, it’s going to take you a year and a half which means you’re going to spend about 2 years before you get in front of a judge and get hopefully a favorable decision.
