The current maximum for Social Security is approximately $2,600 per month. You can get a lower amount than that if you have paid less into the system. Social Security utilizes a formula. They’ll take a look at what you’ve paid in, and based on that formula, they will determine your PIA or Principal Insured Amount and that is what you will get. Of course there are cost of living increases hopefully at least each year. For SSI which is not based on what you’ve paid into the system but is really welfare for individuals who are both poor and disabled the amount that’s paid is $733 per month.
