There are many ways to find a competent attorney that you would be comfortable with and when I say you need to be comfortable with the attorney, in some ways it’s like buying a suit, not even a very expensive suit is going to fit everybody.
Most of our clients, for example, are referral clients. They’re referred to us either from former clients or through other attorneys and those are excellent referrals because someone has either experienced representation by that attorney or there’s another professional, another attorney, who has enough faith to send one of his own clients to that attorney for representation.
Another is, and I’m a great believer in, the internet. You can go to the internet and see what that attorney’s qualifications are, what he’s published, what information he’s promulgating. For example, not to blow my own horn, we have published many articles on many issues pertaining to social security law from childhood disability through drugs and alcohol problems and those are available to be read online.
Those may address an issue that you’re interested in and it shows that there is a willingness and intellectual curiosity and willingness to put this information out. You can also contact NOSSCR which is the National Organization for Social Security Representatives, NOSSCR. You can Google that and you can contact them to find out if there is a NOSCCR member near your address.
You can always call up the attorney, interview them by phone and decide whether or not that is a good fit.
