If you’ve won your Social Security case at any level, ordinarily an order will issue to Social Security to start paying benefits within 4 weeks to 3 months. Again, those benefits are going to be retroactive benefits in many instances, which means that you the claimant, will get a lump sum payment as well as getting continuing monthly benefits. Now, Medicare however, which comes with SSD, the kind of Social Security you get if you’ve paid into the system will not come into effect until you are either age 65 or you have been disabled for 24 months. So you have to wait 25 months to get your Medicare.
