How long does it take to get approval or denial for Social Security Disability claims?

Transcription
In order to answer that question, you have to understand something about the process. There is an initial application which is generally made online, although you can go to a Social Security office and make the application there. Social Security will consider your application, they’ll look at your medical records, it’ll look at your employment history, and will make a decision generally anywhere between two and six months. In that context, they may send you out to a medical specialist exam you further. If you lose at that level, there are various appeals that can be taken through at the lower-levels, a hearing in front of an administrative, law judge.

If you file for a hearing in front of an administrative, law judge, which is the third level of appeal, that in Florida will take approximately a-year-and-a-half. If you’re turned down, you’re looking at a two-year process.
