The standard for making a determination as to disability that is utilized by social security and the standards used by the VA are different. Therefore, while a VA determination as to a disability is somewhat compelling, it is not going to be determinative. However, there is now a ruling in the social security system that says if the veteran’s administration says that you are disabled, and if you are a veteran, you get a priority. Whether that priority is real or not, I couldn’t tell you; but the law says that there is a priority, which means that your claim as a veteran, will move through the system more quickly than a claim by a non-veteran.
